Saturday's plans

This past weekend was filled with exciting events! We started Saturday morning off with Jeff's lacrosse game. While the team played an absolutely awesome game, we still came up short. HOWEVER, I do have news to report. Our little Jeff scored the last goal of the game! This is where I kick myself for not bringing the video camera. The other team had just had a penalty called on them so we were man up for 1 minute (slashing). Jeff started with the ball at midfield, ran straight down the middle of the field towards the goal, made some amazing twist, moves, turns and threw the hardest shot I've ever seen him throw...WOO HOO, Jeff SCORES! It was fantastic! Jeff and I celebrated afterwards by going out to lunch.
During Jeff's game the Phils went to see IronMan. Seemed to be a good movie but they didn't have much to say other than they liked it.
We finished cleaning the house, got ready for the babysitter who arrived at 6pm, and Phil and I went out to dinner....We were SO disappointed! If you checked out the link in the previous posting you would have noticed that the restaurant portrays itself to be a "fine dining experience" and is supposed to be business (casual) dress. Well since I never get to dress up anymore I figured I wanted to look cute so Phil and I both got dressed in pants and nice shirts...when we got there there were people in raggy jeans, shorts, and flip flops! Then they sat us in a back room with a wedding party that was absolutely obnoxious and it took 1 HOUR for our food to get to the table. I felt like it was part Hells Kitchen, part Hidden Camera! To add insult to injury, Phil's porter house steak was maybe 1/4" thick and my salmon was RAW! I didn't know they served sushi! LOL, I just have to laugh about the last part...to "make up" for their mistake they offered to give us a dessert on the house. Well little did we know we were going to receive someone elses leftovers...they brought us the creme brule and the plate said "congrats" on it! LOL oh man - needless to say we'll never be eating there again!

Captain 1 - Morgan 0

Current events

I have some exciting news about lil Phil! We were at his tennis lesson on Monday and I spoke with his trainer regarding signing up for the beginner II classes. He told me that Phil has already surpassed his classmates and would be better served (no pun intended) in a level above beginner II which is called the "Drill Squad"! How awesome is that!? He looks like a natural on the court and LOVES to play! I'm so excited that he's found something he's interested in!

As for Jeff, the season is winding down. Feels like we've been playing lacrosse FOREVER! He has a game this weekend and may play in the U-9 game next Thursday, but otherwise we only have the tournament left the weekend of the 17th. Here's the link for anyone who's interested: http://bagatawaylax.com/tournaments.html. I've offered to help coordinate all the Stars teams (that's who we play for) regarding a "base camp", food, tents, etc. but so far have heard nothing...oh well!

Over the past week we've been interviewing new babysitters. The two so far seem great but both have an "uh oh" factor...the first, at the end of the interview, told us she was 4 1/2 months pregnant and the second goes back to college the first week in August! I'm supposed to interview another one on Friday who lives where our marina is so hopefully there will be no surprises there. We're definitely leaning toward the 1st b/c she was just so organized, pleasant, and had a great background. She took notes during the whole meeting! We're going to test her this weekend. Phil made reservations at this new restaurant, FireWater, here in Cumming. It looks fantastic: http://www.firewaterchophouse.com/ so she's coming over on Saturday around 6pm to watch the boys. We also have her booked for June 5th! HELL YEA! BUFFETT HERE WE COME! WOOHOO

As for the rest of the weekend, there's a lacrosse game at 10:15am on Saturday. I've suggested that the Phils go see IronMan (Jeff doesn't want to go). Sunday will probably be gardening...we're on the back yard bed now! We'll be finished in NO TIME! Oh, that reminds me, I never took pictures of the side..I'll add those tomorrow :-)

Think that's about it!

Oh, if you could please keep our moms in your prayers in the coming weeks it would be most appreciated. Phil's mom is having knee replacement surgery on Friday and mom should know more about her situation on Friday. Love you both!

Great birthday pics

Mom shared with us a few (almost 20 hahaha) pictures from Friday night's celebration. She gave my dad the most awesome bday gift ever! A cruise to Alaska! Needless to say, dad was a bit shocked, then totally excited, as you will see below. Robby sent dad a bug shield for his new tank, I mean truck, and we sent him a subscription to the Mega Millions. Anyone who knows dad well knows that he loves his lottery! Dad, I'm so glad you had a great birthday! Gotta book those flights soon and I'll see you in June...THAT was the surprise! :-)

Love ya!

24 HOURS - a few inventions since 1948

  • Airbags - 1973
  • On April Fool's Day, 1976, Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs released the Apple I computer and started Apple Computers. The Apple I was the first with a single circuit board used in a computer.
  • A patent for astroturf was filed for on December 25, 1965 and issued by the USPTO on July 25, 1967.
  • Some experts have the opinion that James Goodfellow of Scotland holds the earliest patent date of 1966 for a modern ATM, and John D White (also of Docutel) in the US is often credited with inventing the first free-standing ATM design. In 1967, John Shepherd-Barron invented and installed an ATM in a Barclays Bank in London.
  • The Barbie doll was invented in 1959 by Ruth Handler.
  • In 1951, the first video tape recorder (VTR) captured live images from television cameras by converting the information into electrical impulses (digital) and saving the information onto magnetic tape.
  • The first DVD players appeared in Japan in November, 1996, followed by U.S. players in March, 1997.
  • Computer engineer, Ray Tomlinson invented internet based email in late 1971.
  • First marketed on July 12, 1960, the Etch-A-Sketch ® was developed in the late 1950s by Frenchman, Arthur Granjean.
  • The press has often stated that ethernet was invented on May 22, 1973, when Robert Metcalfe wrote a memo to his bosses stating the possibilities of ethernet's potential, but Metcalfe claims ethernet was actually invented very gradually over a period of several years.
  • In 1971, IBM introduced the first "memory disk", as it was called then, or the "floppy disk" as it is known today.
  • Hacky Sack or Footbag, as we know it today, is a modern American sport invented in 1972, by John Stalberger and Mike Marshall of Oregon City, Oregon.

  • The original laser printer called EARS was developed at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center beginning in 1969 and completed in November, 1971.
  • The first metal lunchbox produced was the Hopalong Cassidy created by the Aladdin Company of Nashville in 1950.
  • Digital modems developed from the need to transmit data for North American air defense during the 1950s. Modems were used to communicate data over the public switched telephone network or PSTN. Analog telephone circuits can only transmit signals that are within the frequency range of voice communication.

OK, so I only got through the "M"s this morning but you get the picture...A LOT has happened since 1948! :-)
